The Bank Tavern, February 1998

Main Street is easy to find in Keswick as it is, as you might expect, the main street in the centre of town with lots of shops. The Bank Tavern is one of the oldest pubs in town. Upon entering this classic town pub we were welcomed by the landlord and a couple of locals. It's obviously regarded as a good pub in the local area as I once spotted an award for its 'Services to the beer drinker in West Cumbria' on a wall. It was definitely a cosy pub with chatty locals and a good selection of beers.

There were several Jennings beers on offer from the mild up to Snecklifter (abv 5.1%) - a dark, rich, malty beer with the addition of hops to the aftertaste - a great pint! Nearly 20 of us descended on the pub after a long walk and tried all the beers on offer and found them all to be in good form. Reasonably priced, nicely presented tasty food is also available in generous portions which you can, if you wish, enjoy in a separate restaurant area. During the summer months the pub's beer garden is well worth a visit.
