AJ outside the New Inn in February 2000

Tucked away just outside the ring road up a narrow side street is the New Inn. You could quite easily walk right past the pub if it weren't for the pub sign above the door. It's a narrow mid-terrace Victorian pub with bare boad floors and old furniture and an impressive range of real ales on offer. We visited on a cold night in February 2000 and were warmly received by the landlord who served us two perfect pints of Green King IPA. The clientele is very mixed with students, locals and visitors all enjoying the beer, food and atmosphere of the pub. The must get through a lot of different real ales as the range changes every time I visit the pub and they've a good collection of beer mats on the walls of previous ales.

They've a modern conservatory at the back of the pub with more seating out there but the rest of the pub does have a very traditional feel about it. They've a range of basic good value for money meals such as sausage and chips if you're a little peckish. All in all a very impressive friendly back street local, a great place to relax and have a chat with some friends away from the crowded city centre bars.

Definitely a traditional feel about the bar, April 2002
