Me with a great pint and giant piece of fish, April 2002

Unusually this pub is licenced right through from breakfast to the early hours of the morning to serve the needs of the hundreds of postal workers who work at the Mount Pleasant (WC1) sorting office over the road. As the office is open 24 hours a day, the pub serves the needs of postal workers coming off shifts at various hours of the day and night along with visitors from all over London. Easy to find, this street corner pub is a very impressive sight in summer, the exterior adorned with dozens of hanging baskets and tubs. They put seating out front in the summer should you wish to enjoy your pint outside. Spacious inside, the pub has a central bar that serves around 5 real ales, typically a Fullers beer is always available along with a beer from Harvey's extensive range and several guest beers. Hearty breakfasts are available before noon, lunch is then served until 3pm and evening meals are available between 6 and about 10pm. Food is pretty standard pub grub from baguettes to a very tasty and indeed large cod and chips that I chose. Prompt friendly service even though the pub was pretty busy.

The pub boasts several darts teams and is a popular venue to watch football and other major sporting events. Get there early if you want a seat!
