Phil & Lisa outside the pub in August 2000

Penny and Jackie , the landladies, have performed a near miracle by turning a derelict building into a thriving pub with an excellent community atmosphere. A very friendly pub tucked away in Tipton and is well worth seeking out. It has won several pub awards including the highest of them all, the CAMRA National Pub of the Year in 1999. They are a true free house and along with a couple of Banks's beers serve a wide range of wonderful brews from independent breweries scattered around the country. You can guarantee that one of the beers will be a mild too, a type of brew that seems to be getting harder to find these days.

A smart pub with a lot of wood (tables, floor, bar...) and an outside drinking area out the back. We just missed their quiz night which is held every other Tuesday and also missed their beer festival which is held at the end of August usually over the Bank Holiday. Good lunchtime meals are available on weekdays.
