Plough Inn, Wistanstow, CRAVEN ARMS, SY7 8DG [Map]
Caught the train to Craven Arms, went for a walk and then happened to come across the Plough by accident (allegedly!). It's situated just off the A49 and the A489 in Wistanstow itself. I would have included a photo of the front of the pub but it wouldn't have done it justice as they were renovating it when I visited in July 1997. The pub is well known for its home-made food including shark steak, but they don't take credit cards. There are two bars with the public bar having a games area with pool, darts and machines. We sat outside and only then realised that the Wood brewery lay to the rear. The pub serves the full range of Wood's beers including the fruity Wonderful (abv. 5.7%), a very drinkable ale. Well worth a visit and a great area to go walking in. The staff were more than happy to advise us as to the best areas to explore. Nigel Bevan, of Shrewsbury and West Shropshire CAMRA advises that they often have some classy entertainment in the form of guitar and vocals on some Fridays.
